Estate secretary does the splits: How a landed estate benefited from registering land
Estate Secretary Ann Dyson works at Rise Farm Estates in East Yorkshire, a landed estate of 12 hectares with over 50 rental properties split over five settlements.
She decided to register the estate's land after seeing a Land Registry display at the Great Yorkshire Show.
"It's an excellent investment for the future, and will help ensure that when the land is passed on, it's done as smoothly as possible", she said. "You never know when disputes may arise, and if you have your land registered, it could alleviate problems in the future."
"Land Registry were very easy to contact. You had the same person who you spoke to, wrote the letters, you could get hold of them at any time, and if they weren't there they rang you back. We knew on the ground where the splits where and who owned what and where the boundaries lay."
Ann found the process good value for money. "The cost was only £525 per parcel of land, which is very reasonable." |
