Land Registration Rules amendments

New Land Registry forms, the use of statements of truth and greater flexibility in standard restrictions are among the changes that have come into force under a series of amendments to the Land Registration Rules 2003.

The amendments are the result of a review carried out by Land Registry and our subsequent consultation with customers from October 2007 to January 2008.

Our aim in carrying out the review was to cut the administrative burden on customers, reduce the risk of fraud, improve operational efficiency and clarify rules where their original intention had not been accomplished or had been open to interpretation.

We believe the aims of the review have been achieved, thanks in large part to the response of our customers and our work with partners such as the Law Society.

The result is that the following statutory provisions came into force on Monday 10 November 2008.

  • The Land Registration (Amendment) Rules 2008
  • The Commonhold (Land Registration) (Amendment) Rules 2008
  • The Land Registration (Proper Office) (Amendment) Order 2008

Here you’ll find details of the changes brought in by these provisions (together with background material on the review and consultation) and a summary of frequently asked questions. You'll also find our amended forms, practice guides, public guides and Take action booklet. We also have online modules outlining how to populate restrictions Form L and Form NN.
