Overview of commonhold Introduction Contents Previous Next

    Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to give background information about commonhold. It is designed to provide a basic understanding of how commonhold works, why it is being introduced and how it differs from conventional freehold and leasehold ownership.

The overview is not designed to give advice (legal or otherwise) on the advantages or disadvantages of converting to or buying into a commonhold scheme.

Reference in this guide to "the Act" means Part 1 of the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002, which, with the exception of sections 21(4) and (5) came  into force on 27 September 2004.

The module should take approx. 30 minutes to complete.

To navigate through the module use the 'next ' and 'previous' links on each page. Alternately, the Show Contents link  provides direct access to the individual sections of the guide. A glossary of common terms used is also available at the end of the module.
