Welcome to the Land Registry's updated e-learning module on registering leases and leasehold interests. The module replaces the one previously published on the website and the module published on CD-Rom in April 2005.
The module does not cover prescribed clauses leases. These are dealt with in a separate module.
This module explains how leasehold interests are dealt with within the land registration system. It is aimed at intermediate level, ie. those with a good knowledge of leasehold matters. It is divided into the following chapters: - Consents: explains what to do when the consent of a third party is required.
- Determination of a lease: sets out the registration requirements when a lease is determined.
- Easements in leases: explains the need to register easements granted or reserved in leases.
- Lease plans: examines in detail Land Registry requirements for lease plans.
- Options in leases: shows you how to protect these interests.
- Restrictive covenants: deals with the protection of restrictive covenants in leases.
- Variation of a lease: explains the way Land Registry treat these often complex applications.
- When to register: helps you decide when a lease must be registered.
