Positional accuracy improvement

Ordnance Survey (OS) has embarked on a major programme of work to update and correct the positional accuracy of its rural mapping, on a national basis. This will result in improved consistency and more accurate standards of mapping data for rural areas. It will future-proof the data ahead of new building development and other change. The changes made to OS data will have a significant effect on current Land Registry data holdings, with the representation of topographical features that signify property boundaries moving in an unpredictable way.

We have been working very closely with our external systems suppliers to create a semi-automated solution to this problem that will allow us to move our data in line with the underlying detail. This enhanced system and the associated data management programme will ensure that the Land Register is as accurate and up to date as possible.
