Inside the Land Registry

Land Registration Qualification (LRQ)

A further 200 staff have started a course of study towards either the Certificate ("A" level equivalent) or Diploma (degree level equivalent) in Land Registration Law and Practice. Over 800 members of staff, almost 10% of staff in post, have now studied for the Land Registration Qualification and junior grades have had the opportunity to study it for the first time. In November, the then Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Baroness Scotland, presented certificates to approximately 50 students who successfully completed the first ever two-year Diploma course.

The College of Law has recently been awarded a five-year contract to deliver LRQ training and the LRQ will be re-launched to mark the implementation of the new Land Registration Act in October. From September 2003, in line with the Government's Wider Markets Initiative, the course will be offered to students from outside Land Registry as part of our programme of training on the new Act. The LRQ will also assist practitioners in preparation for electronic conveyancing.
