Inside the Land Registry

Environmental performance

We continue to monitor and improve environmental performance using our Environmental Management System (EMS).

During 2002-03, three further local offices and Head Office implemented the EMS. They join our Lancashire Office in being externally assessed and successfully added to our ISO14001 certificate. A further eight local offices began implementing the EMS last year.

The EMS has helped us to deliver many environmental benefits, such as introducing environmental considerations in to the approval stage of new projects and setting specific improvement targets to:

  • reduce paper consumption
  • reduce electricity consumption
  • maximise recycling
  • manage travel.

National targets reflect those set in the Framework for Sustainable Development on the Government Estate. One target, to have at least 10% of fleet cars alternatively fuelled by 2006 has already been exceeded three years early. Of all Agency fleet cars, 29% have dual fuel capacity and can run on either petrol or LPG.
