Chief Land Registrar's Report
Workload
The property market showed a continuous rise over the year and our workload
increased by 16%.
- Intake reached 10.68 million units, exceeding previous records
- Pre-completion work increased 15%
- Enquiries and correspondence, including Land Registry Direct applications,
increased by 37.65%
- Output reached 10.76 million units, exceeding previous records due to a
superb effort from staff.
Our work processes continue to be re-engineered to meet customer requirements
and to maintain constant improvements in efficiency. Our 'Same Day Dealings'
initiative, that allows applications to be processed and despatched on the day
of receipt, started to have an impact. It entails selecting all the correctly
lodged Dealing of Whole applications from each day's intake and processing them
immediately so that they can be despatched on the day of receipt. It is very
popular, particularly with members of the public who deliver applications
personally to Customer Information Centres.
Work in progress was reduced by over 17% to 171,030 cases, the lowest for 5
years, by giving priority to casework that has been delayed in the office. These
cases (which are usually incorrectly lodged and are awaiting replies to
requisitions, or are the subject of disputes, or have been delayed awaiting
surveys) adversely affect our speed of service performance. As a result, the
number of 3, 6 and 12 months old applications has, overall, been reduced by 40%.
