Chief Land Registrar's Report
Quinquennial Review
The Quinquennial Review of the Land Registry took place 2000-01. Andrew
Edwards CB carried out a very positive, wide-ranging review of all aspects of
our work. He found that the Land Registry was well placed to deliver its current
services and was well regarded. He was also very supportive of our long term
plans for reshaping the conveyancing process.
His report, published in June 2001, recommended no change to our status, yet
it did recommend ways of making land registration services more effective. The
work programme falls principally to the Land Registry but also includes tasks
for the Lord Chancellor's Department and for other departments. The Ministerial
Task Force on Home Buying and an interdepartmental steering group of officials
oversees its delivery.
The new 10 year Strategic Plan for the Land Registry, launched by the Lord
Chancellor on 28th May 2002 is based on eight strategic objectives.
