Land Registry governance

Land Registry’s good governance, public accountability and strategic and day-to-day management are the responsibility of its two top management boards.

The Land Registry Board is responsible for the strategic direction, good governance and overall performance of Land Registry. It includes two non-executive directors who chair the Pay Committee and the Audit Committee.

The Executive Board delivers the annual business plan and is responsible for the day-to-day management of Land Registry.

The Land Registry Board

The Land Registry Board's purpose is to set Land Registry's strategy for the future.

Responsibilities

Specifically, the Land Registry Board:

- sets the strategy (10-year Strategic Plan, Blueprint etc) and determines the priorities within it

- approves the key performance indicators and other objectives to be put to the Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor each year and assures itself of progress against them

- reviews the state of the business at high level by means of highlight reports from the Executive Board

- reviews the governance of the business including health and safety, Welsh language, diversity, business risks and audit issues

- discusses issues that could affect the strategic direction of the business or its reputation.

The Executive Board

The Executive Board's purpose is to approval Land Registry's annual business plan and to monitor the progress of the actions detailed within it.

- approves and monitors Land Registry's annual business plans

- proposes Land Registry's key performance indicators and monitors their progress

- reviews the operational, financial, human resources and information systems position and issues that are referred up by the chairs of subsidiary boards

- discusses and resolves issues that require the involvement of more than one director.
